Sukkah City model

This assignment tests the student's ability to create a clean, working model of a selected Sukkah City competition entry. The model will be created using Rhinoceros and the image resources provided. Students can trace some of the images available, but a bigger part of the assignment consists in designing the proper modeling process for each specific Sukkah.

The Models will be used throughout the class and will increase their geometric and material complexity as the class progresses.

Assessment objectives

Assessment objectives include:

  • Ability to model with precision and detail
  • Ability to develop a proper modeling process for a given design.
  • Ability to create 3D models that can be modified and increased in their complexity / characteristics in later stages of our design process.

Evaluation Criteria
High Pass
Models are clean, the scale and proportions of the model are close to the Sukkah proposal. The model is a proper geometric / material description of the original Sukkah. Different layers are created for different materials.
Pass
The scale and proportions of the model are close to the Sukkah proposal. The model is a somewhat proper geometric / material description of the original Sukkah.
Low Pass
The model gives an idea of the proposal, but fails to represent the detailed geometrical description of the proposal. The scale and proportions of the model are off.
Fail
The model gives a general idea of the proposal. Lack of detail and interest for a proper geometric / material description of the project are evident.

Assignment

From some of the winning entries of the Sukkah City NYC 2010 competition, choose one of the Sukkahs, produce the 3d model, and prepare the model for an exploded axon view/render. You are only allowed to use one of the following Sukkahs:

Use the resources provided in the box.com folder. The models should have different layers for different materials and be a proper geometric description of the proposal. A big part of the assignment consists in designing the proper modeling process for each specific Sukkah.

The models will be used throughout the semester and you should be able to build up on their complexity.
