Create a Section Perspective Drawing

Starting from a digital model, this exercise focuses on extracting the line work to produce a section drawing in a perspective view, Students are asked to finish the image using entourage, backgrounds and poche. A hand drawing may be used in place of a digital section.
Assessment objectives
  • Understanding of line hierarchy in 3d views, such as perspective
  • Basic understanding of section commands, preparing and exporting linework to Illustrator
  • Stylistic skills to finalize image up to a certain presentation standard

Evaluation Criteria
High Pass
Final image accurately describes the spatial elements of the section perspective, linework incorporates a clear hierarchy that conveys depth, additional stylistic elements are clean and clearly augment the drawing.
Pass
Section perspective is accuaretly produce but the linework includes many errors and lazy mistakes. Stylistic elements have been added but not located in the correct positions.
Low Pass
Linework has not been edited in Illustrator what-so-ever and includes numerous messy mistakes. No attempt at post-processing the image has been made.
Fail
Large components of the drawing missing.

Working from the referenced workflow below, create a section perspective drawing of your current studio project (or a previous model) along the section you've prepared.

Drawing must be viewed in Perspective rather than Parallel view. Post-processing should incorporate the following elements:

  • Render via VRay or RhinoRender
  • Background image
  • Scaled figures w/ correct shadows
