Complete 3D Model of Case Study House and Orthographic Drawings of Case Study House |
|

For this exercise you will need to complete and correct errors in your case study house 3d model, as well as produce orthographic drawings at 1/8"=1' from your 3dmodel using Rhinoceros and Adobe Illustrator. These drawings will originate from the Make2d command in Rhino to create 2D digital drawings of the project, applying line weights in Adobe Illustrator. Emphasis should be placed on layer organization in both your 3d model and 2D linework, orthographic drawing techniques, and careful and consistent use of lineweight. | |

Guidelines
For your presentations, you will not be able to rely on other drawings, screenshots in your sketchbook, or laptops with your 3d model open, in order to discuss the project. Therefore, you must distill the various alignments, manipulations, rotations, and originating moves that went into your 3d model back to a 2-dimensional representation. Architects must do this at every step in their process. For this exercise each student will complete their 3d case study house models and use them to produce drawings according to the above criteria. Drawings will need to be appropriately scaled, and digital 2D .pdf files should contain a hierarchy of linetypes and lineweights that represent the different line weights and line types used in their appropriate conventions in orthographic drawing.
Deliverables
- 3d model uploaded as a .3dm file
- 1/8"=1' Plan(s), showing context and with topo information when necessary
- 1/8"=1' Two Sections (One Long section, one Cross section)
- 1/8"=1' One Elevation
The emphasis of this exercise is to get the complete major elements of the model, including the structural system and walls, as well as detail the model with window framing elements, furniture, and the like in great detail. Maintain elements of the building in 3D on separate layers, maintaining a similar 3D layer hierarchy to stay as organized in the modeling process as possible, as well as during the 2d drawing process as you export linework into Adobe Illustrator. Keeping 3D elements of the same material on one layer will help when we move into rendering and textures.
Please save the 3D model as a .3dm file:
Last Name,First Name_Week 3 _Section 01 or 02_Case Study House Name
Please save the 2d drawings as a .ai file AND as a .pdf. Your 2d drawings should all be in one .pdf file, and each drawing should be related to the others using construction lines:

Please upload to Box no later than 10pm on Thursday, July 16th
