Model the Villa Savarnsworth House

Screenshot Final product.jpg
Use an array of curve and surface editing tools to create a 3d model of a House from 2d plans and elevations. Fit the building into the context of the site and practice manipulating the site.
Assessment objectives
  • Ability to model accurately and precisely in 3d space from 2D linework
  • Knowledge of different surface commands and editing tools
  • Knowledge of different curve commands and editing tools
Exercise Type Problem Set
Evaluation Criteria
High Pass
Model is accurate and 'water tight,' and modeled following the workflow. All dimensions are accurate. All layers have a different color and the correct objects are on that layer. The cabinet on the second floor has been moved.
Pass
Model has minor technical inaccuracies OR incorrect dimensions OR objects are on the wrong layers.
Low Pass
Model has significant inaccuracies OR layers have not been distinguished by color.
Fail
The model is unrecognizable as the Villa Savarnsworth House.

Download the 2D linework needed for this workflow here: Villa Sav-arnsworth House

Model the building according to the workflow, paying attention to fitting the building onto the "site". The "site" is represented by the surface with contours of the topography. The ground floor must touch the site at one point with necessary changes to the site to make it fit properly (cutting into the site, adding retaining wall surfaces, re-lofting certain pieces to meet the ground floor).

You will need to follow the workflow to accurately model the house. Make sure to keep your objects organized by layers and assign different colors to each layer.

Make sure to move the cabinet on the second floor to a new location.
