Create a Section Perspective Drawing

Starting from a digital model, this exercise focuses on extracting the linework to produce a section drawing in a perspective view. Students are asked to finish the image along the styles of LTL using fills, backgrounds and poche.
Assessment objectives
  • Understanding of line hierarchy in 3d views, such as perspective
  • Basic understanding of section commands, preparing and exporting linework to Illustrator
  • Stylistic skills to finalize image up to a certain presentation standard

Evaluation Criteria
High Pass
Final image accurately describes the spatial elements of the section perspective, linework incorporates a clear hierarchy that conveys depth, additional stylistic elements are clean and clearly augment the drawing.
Pass
Section perspective is accuaretly produce but the linework includes many errors and lazy mistakes. Stylistic elements have been added but not located in the correct positions.
Low Pass
Linework has not been edited in Illustrator what-so-ever and includes numerous messy mistakes. No attempt at post-processing the image has been made.
Fail
Large components of the drawing missing.

Working from the attached workflow, create a section perspective drawing of the attached digital model of the Villa Savoye. Use the cut plane in the attached file for reference to the section location.

Drawing must be viewed in Perspective rather than Parallel view. Post-processing should incorporate elements in the style of Lewis-Tsurumaki-Lewis such as the following:

  • Shadows via Rhino Render
  • Fills the emphasize materiality (glass)
  • Background image
  • Scaled figures
