Session Help
Sessions are the weekly lesson or lecture that instructors use to teach material. Each Session belongs to a Course , and may not belong to more than one.
Sessions are the most flexible place on the Wiki to add new content. Contributors are free to add any material that relates to the course. Later on, this material may be generalized to the rest of the Wiki.
Semantic Structure
To create a new Session, click on the button within the semantic structure of the Course.
Each Session page has the following semantic properties. On the form to create a new Session, the order of the semantic structure may vary from how it is displayed once the page is created.
- Course
- Course refers to the Course Number to which the session belongs. Choose from a drop-down menu of active courses.
- Name
- The Name will be displayed as a link on the Course page. The Name of each Session should follow this structure: Week Number - Topic .
- Date
- This is the date on which the Session is held. Sessions are automatically sorted by date.
- Learning Objectives
- The Learning Objectives should discuss in a few sentences the concepts and skills that will be covered.
- Agenda
- Structure the agenda as a bullet list .
- Uses Tool(s)
- Lists the Tools that are taught in the Session.
Free-Text Structure
Each Session page should roughly adhere to the following structure. Unlike other Studiomaven Sections, however, the structure of the Session page is looser and more free-form. Because each Session will cover different material, the content of each Session will differ.
- Session Content
- To create a rich Session page, consider including more than just a PDF of a lecture--write a longer discussion of certain topics, include images and other media, or use examples and case studies. Use descriptive titles as level 2 headings and discuss concepts. For example, the author of this Session pulled the content out of the PDF lecture and filled it in with material. The benefit to writing the lecture out is that it becomes easily searchable and usable by the Studiomaven community. Content here may later be generalized as content for other parts of the Wiki.
- Workflow
- Link to a Workflow that is associated with the Session and/or Exercise.
- Exercise
- Link to the Exercise associated with the Session.
- Resources
- Links to external resources, general reference files stored on the Studiomaven Dropbox , and any reference material that may prove useful. Structured as a level 2 heading called "Resources".
