Drafting Board

A drafting board (also drawing table, drafting table or architect's table) is, in its antique form, a kind of multipurpose desk which can be used for drafting precise technical illustrations, freehand drawing, or impromptu sketching on large-format paper.

Drawing to Scale

Important Aspects to Consider when Hand Drafting

  • Line Quality – Sharpness, blackness & appropriate weight.
  • Crisp Corners – Corners should be met but without excessive overlap.
  • Drawing order – the typical set up for laying out an orthographic drawing is the following:
  1. Lightly block out the major horizontal and vertical lines
  2. Fill in the secondary lines
  3. Heavy up the final lines, keeping mind the proper line weight at each time.

Note: the final drawing could be created on top of sketches / construction line drawings in effort to keep final work clean and eraser-free
