Orthographic Drawings of Case Study House

Screenshot Stahl plan.jpg
For this exercise you will need to research, find, and scan (if necessary) the drawings for your assigned case study house. These drawings will then be traced in Rhino to create 2D digital drawings of the project. Emphasis should be placed on layer organization for the 2D linework and orthographic drawing techniques.
Assessment objectives

Assessment objectives include:

  • Scaling and Importing Images
  • Use of Construction Lines to Relate Drawings Orthographically
  • Organization of Layers in Rhino
Exercise Type Problem Set
Evaluation Criteria
High Pass
Drawings sized correctly. At least 6 Rhino layers organizing linetypes well (lines to be changed to their appropriate lineweight at a later date). Drawings are organized via construction lines to relate information to one another, orthographically.
Pass
Drawings sized correctly. Rhino layers are present, but several are missing. Construction lines are sparse, but drawings are organized orthographically. Drawings contain some issues.
Low Pass
Drawings sized incorrectly. All drawing is done on one Rhino Layer. No construction lines present, drawings are not organized orthographically.Information is unclear.
Fail
no submission
Uses Tool(s) Tool:Rhino v4.x
Uses Workflow(s) Workflow:519390

Guidelines

For this exercise each student will do preliminary research on his or her assigned case study project using print and digital resources. The library should be used extensively for this project as there is a wealth of information found in print. All drawings should be scanned and used as the base for the trace drawings in Rhino. Scanned drawings will need to be appropriately scaled, and digital 2D files should contain a well organized series of layers that represent the different line weights and line types used in their appropriate conventions in orthographic drawing.

Deliverables

  • Plan(s), showing context and with topo information when necessary
  • Two Sections (One Long section, one Cross section)
  • One Elevation
